Here's an easy way to chum for catfish. Take a few tins of sardines in oil with you. Rubber band a tin to a fist sized rock, then punch several holes in the tin and toss it where you want your chum scent trail to be. The oily sardine liquid slowly leaks out of the tin leaving a scent trail. The tin will rust out in about a fishing season so you won't be polluting.
